Authentic, handmade huipil vintage 1970 from. San Lucas Ojitlán, state of Oaxaca, Mexico. Backstrap-loomed, three pieces joined with multicolored cotton randas in center and on sides, white cotton fondo with alternating rows of leno weave which create small holes. Mostly red cotton supplementary weft brocaded images, geometric, the images could have been embroidered, neck is cut out and embroidered, some fading and thread breakage at the neck. Bought directly from the weaver.
This huipil was occasionally worn by the collector in the 1970s and washed. It has been untouched and safely stored in a temperature-controlled environment for the past 38 years. The cotton is very soft and pleasant to the touch. As stated in the appraiser's description above there are some loose threads.
