This unusual 4/4 violin appears to be of American workmanship to my eye and would likely date to the years just before WWII. Measuring 23 ¼ tall with 14 x 7 ¼ body it has one of the most AMAZING figured tiger maple backs that you will find in a modern instrument. The face is of fir with an unexpected knot near the hand carved F holes and it sports a tail piece of steer bone with a single dot of ebony inlay. The purfling is choppy in places and the back is gapped along 6 of the seam. It is unsigned and sports an Aubert bridge. The piece comes with a 1920s-30s faux alligator hard case that is a bit musty. I had a violin playing friend of mine look it over and she did rough tuning and played it a bit proclaiming.
Amazingly lively sound especially with the open back seam. It comes with unmarked usable exotic hardwood bow missing some celluloid on the shoe. The item "Vintage Folk Art Americana 4/4 Violin Fiddle TIGER MAPLE As Is Inlaid Tail Piece" is in sale since Monday, August 5, 2019.
